An educational opportunity is sweeping the nation and we caught the wave with our very first Construction Career Days (CCD) event on October 25 & 26, 2007 at Honolulu Community College (HCC). Nearly 600 Oahu high school students from 23 different schools were introduced to the construction industry and the many job opportunities available. This successful event offered students the opportunity to operate heavy equipment, participate in hands-on activities and view educational displays.
Hawaii Construction Career Days (HICCD) is a nonprofit organization to provide high school students grade 9 -12 with an insight into career opportunities available in the multi-faceted construction industry. This event is sponsored in part by the Hawaii Department of Transportation, trade and labor organizations, private construction companies, corporate sponsors and many more. We would like to acknowledge all the committee members that made our event such an outstanding success. All of the students were thrilled with the event and we are pleased that we gave them a better insight to their future.
Hawaii's third CCD event was held at HCC on October 21-22, 2009. The event offered high school students exposure in two areas: Heavy Equipment where students were able to operate heavy construction equipment and the Educational Exhibits and Trades area which consists of displays from construction companies, engineering firms, government agencies, educational institutions, and trade associations. The students were able to learn about career opportunities and participate in interactive displays that involved students in fun and challenging games. Approximately 1,300 students from 20 public, private high schools and HCC students attended this years event.
